Water Production in Kuwait - Its Management and Economics

Abstract

Kuwait depends mainly on multi-stage flash distillation plants for desalting of seawater to satisfy its water needs. With the emergence of the reverse os- mosis system as a competitor to multi-stage flash for desalting seawater, it has been necessary to make an economic analysis to determine the right choice. Comparing costs of water production by reverse osmosis and multi-stage flash systems for Kuwait conditions, the reverse osmosis system is shown to be more economically advantageous than the multi-stage flash one. The paper also recommends better ways to manage water production.
