Theory of one-magnon light scattering in three-sublattice ferrimagnets

    Abstract

    A theory is presented for one-magnon light scattering in three-sublattice ferrimagnets. The Green function method is used to calculate as a function of temperature the energies of the uniform spin-wave modes, the absorption strengths and the light scattering intensities in these systems. The theory is applied to the class of spinel ferrites, MFe2O4 which materials have three inequivalent spins per magnetic cell. Numerical calculations for NiFe2O4 are presented. The results show new features in the three-sublattice ferrimagnet which are absent in the two-sublattice case.
