Abstract

Breast cancer is the leading cause of female mortality. It is defined as an abnormal and uncontrolled proliferation of certain cells. The expression of many proteins is altered in the cancerous transformation and in tumor progression. This protein expression can trigger a response of auto-immunity and the release of autoantibodies that seem to have a crucial role in the prognosis, diagnosis and for the creation of new potential therapeutic targets. Today, the immunoproteomic approach Serological Proteomic Analysis (SERPA) allows simultaneous search of autoantibodies and identification of immunodominant antigenic proteins. This technique has the huge advantage of being rapid and specific. In this review, we have focused the contribution of this immunoproteomic approach to the breast cancer, and the discovery of new markers for diagnosis and prognosis.
