Robust control schemes for an overhead crane

Abstract

This paper addresses the control problem of an overhead crane. A variable structure control scheme, a variable structure controller in conjunction with a state feedback control scheme, and a μ-synthesis control scheme are proposed to control the overhead crane. The performances of the system when the different control schemes are used are compared using the simulations results. The merits and demerits of the different control schemes are highlighted.
