Modern PID controller design for load frequency control

Abstract

PID controllers are widely used in the load frequency control procedure in power systems. Stability and transient response are two significant design requirements. In this paper, a modern PID controller parameters design for a single unit load frequency control system is proposed. It is based on stabilizing sets design method and a modified characteristic ratio assignment method. Stabilizing sets can provide with all parameters that guarantee system stability. A modified characteristic ratio assignment criterion can lead to good transient response. Through these two procedures, a guided parameter set can be given to design PID parameters in the load frequency control system.
