Model Predictive Control of Three-Phase Electric Springs with Multiple Control Functions and Fixed Switching Frequency

Abstract

Electric Spring (ES), as a new technique, is mainly proposed for overcoming major drawbacks of micro grids and renewable power systems. Electric Spring has repetitively proposed for facing abrupt under and over voltage as well as system unbalance conditions. ES is simply a load side management technique that tries to transfer fluctuations to uncritical loads, which made buildings the main targeted application for electric spring. Fast dynamic response is a mandatory feature composing any proposed electric spring control technique. To this end, this paper proposes a new model predictive controller for electric springs to control the voltage magnitude on a critical load with the power factor improvement capability at fixed switching frequency. The proposed controller is validated using a simulation case study based on Matlab/Simulink.
