Microscopic analysis of the transmittance of YBa2Cu3O7 thin films

Abstract

The transmittance of a thin film of YBa2Cu3O7 is calculated from the band-structure-derived dielectric function. It is shown that (1) band-structure calculations provide a reasonable description of the transmittance in the whole measured energy region (0.2 eV < [hstrok]ω < 5 eV). (2) the transmittance in this region is mainly defined by the dielectric function corresponding to the light polarized in the x (crystallographic a) direction and (3) the minima of the transmittance do not necessarily indicate interband transitions.
