Calorimetric detection of THz radiation from femtosecond filaments in air

The THz radiation produced by plasma filaments created in air by intense femtosecond laser pulses was measured using calorimetric techniques. A detector sensitive to the radiated energy in a frequency spanning between dc and THz was used for the study. The dc signal was compared to the sub-THz emission from the localized dense plasma produced in air. The results show that plasma channels created during the filamentation of femtosecond laser pulses emit sub-THz radiation.
